Louise Cooper, B.Sp.Ex.Sc., Post Grad Dip Ex. Phys. (Clinical), ESSAM

Louise Cooper: the founder of Health Moves, Louise, has returned from maternity leave (for the 4th time) in 2023. Since having children she  has been competing further studies in paediatric exercise physiology and women’s health; particularly pre and post-natal exercise interventions.

Louise is particularly interested in working with children whom have developed Type 2 Diabetes, which is growing at an alarming rate in the region. Louise wants to ensure that future generations are set up for a future of health not a future of chronic disease.

Louise graduated from James Cook University in 2012 with a bachelor of sport and exercise science and post graduate diploma in clinical exercise physiology.
Louise enjoys spending time with her husband and young family, all outdoor activities; particularly camping and hiking. She also enjoys cooking, making Sourdough bread and Cheese!

Ben Collins B Ex Physiol Clin, ESSAM

Ben Collins: Ben has now been on the Health Moves team for two and a half years. He has developed a special interest in Diabetes and completed further training to enable him to excel in this area. Ben delivers our land based Diabetes group programs: Move with Diabetes and Beat it! Ben also enjoys working with clients with chronic musculoskeletal conditions and returning them to full function.
Ben is a Cairns local who has seen how healthcare can play a key role in assisting members of the community to live happier and healthier lives. Ben places a huge importance on education and health promotion and is looking forward to educating the community on how regular exercise can improve health. Ben lives an active lifestyle by playing soccer in the local league and enjoys weekends away camping and fishing.

Nikayla Casson Ba. Sp. Ex. Sc, Masters in Exercise Physiology ESSAM

Nikayla has a special interest in paediatric exercise physiology and has completed further studies in Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI); an intervention that assist children reach gross motor milestones. Nikayla also enjoys working with clients with musculoskeletal conditions. Nikayla has a passion for helping children have the best possible start to life and helping them realise their full potential.

Nikayla was born and raised in Cairns and has always had an interest in sports and fitness, she has played soccer for 10 years, had a break as a result of knee surgery, and has recently commenced playing again for the Stratford Dolphins. 

When not at work Nikayla likes going to the gym, spending time outdoors with family, friends and her dog Arli. She enjoys camping, fishing and traveling the world!

Shannon Neate, Ba Sp, Ex Sc, Masters in Exercise Physiology ESSAM

Shannon was born and raised in Cairns/ Gordonvale, but moved to Brisbane at age 12 to pursue a career in elite gymnastics. Shannon stayed in Brisbane for the next 11 years, training full time as an Australian National team member through out high school, and then working as an advanced gymnastics coach and group fitness instructor whilst studying a Bachelor of exercise and sport science and masters of clinical exercise physiology at the Australian Catholic University. Shannon has recently moved back to Cairns and is excited to kick start her career as an exercise physiologist. Shannon has special interest in women’s health, paediatrics and chronic disease management. In her spare time she enjoys rock climbing, spending time outdoors and reading.

Dr Mandy Plumb PhD Orthopaedic Surgery BSc Sports Science BSc Clinical Exercise Physiology

Dr Mandy Plumb graduated from the University of Wales, Bangor with a BSC Honours degree in Sports and exercise science in 2000. She then joined the orthopaedic surgery at the University of Aberdeen and pursued a PhD in Medicine, observing mechanical and metabolic factors in osteoarthritis. Mandy then worked across a variety of universities, and conducted research in areas such as Developmental coordination disorder, osteoarthritis and posture, as well as teaching the sport and exercise degree. Mandy relocated to Cairns in 2020 from Melbourne where she had moved to in 2013 from Cambridge in the UK; since arriving in Cairns she has been involved with the Northern Pride as a sport trainer, Mandy has special interest in developmental coordination, neurological conditions (traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and motor neurone disease). She is also interested in sports injury/ concussion and return to play/ sport for both professional athletes and recreational athletes. When she isn’t in the office Mandy enjoys mutli-day hiking, camping, botanical water colour painting, and cycling.

The Health Moves Difference

Whist Health Moves Exercise Physiologists are exercise specialists, we use the word “exercise” loosely and prefer to look upon our role as assisting people in becoming more active through the use of functional movement patterns and behaviour change strategies.
